Description
Delight yourself with the beauties of Borde Hill. Relax as you walk through the scents and enjoy the colours from the warmth of the Rose Garden, the lush tropical plantings in the Round Dell and the design and space in the Italian Garden. Whether you come to find a rare plant, or walk through the rolling Wealden landscape past woods full of bluebells, you will find something for every taste.
Borde Hill has been the home of the Stephenson Clarke family since 1893 and each generation has improved and extended the plants, the facilities and the areas available for public enjoyment. The parkland is now listed as grade II* by English Heritage and surrounds the Tudor Mansion of Borde Hill House.
The Garden was planted from the early 1900s with specimens gathered by the great plant hunting expeditions that visited the Himalayas, Andes, China, Tasmania, Africa and other exotic parts of the world. Most of the trees and shrubs are fine, and sometimes unique, examples and with over 100 Champion Trees and many years of awards from the RHS.
There is much to offer either the enthusiast or just those wanting to learn more about the wide diversity of the horticultural world. The Garden has grown in appeal and now offers an Adventure Playground that is very popular with families who also often make use of the 200 acres of parkland for walking their dogs or for the coarse fishing.
You can add to your enjoyment by visiting Jeremy’s Restaurant and eat a delicious lunch as recommended by the Good Food Guide. When you visit you need to remember to see the Africa house and the Peach house both of which are Victorian greenhouses that have been restored with the aid of the Heritage Lottery Fund in a restoration project prompted by the devastation following the great storm in 1987.
The Garden continues to evolve, and each year they add to the education, entertainment and variety that is on offer. Each summer there is open air theatre and the summer magic proms on the main lawn, and the parkland hosts outside events that range from equestrian cross-country and show jumping to craft fairs.
Coach parties are welcome but they ask that they pre-book so that staff and the Tea Rooms can provide the usual high quality of service that is part of the overall enjoyment of Borde Hill.

I visited Borde Hill Gardens with my mother in July 2008. The setting was lovely, but most of the gardens were very disappointing. The rose garden badly needed deadheading, and there was little sign o...
